King County in the news
Ack, Blogger is not working like it should be, so forgive me for any strange formatting problems in this post.
You've probably already heard about the King County Bar Association's resolution calling for a reevaluation of the war on drugs, investigation into harm reduction alternatives, etc.
But I was really tickled to see this make it into the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in the form of a report on a brown bag meeting with City Council members to discuss the failure of the war on drugs:
Awesome that the Bar Association, a group for which drug policy reform is not the raison d'etre, is jumping into the fray. Maybe this will open some eyes to the fact that current policies don't work from a public health/public policy perspective.
Go Seattle!

Councilman Nick Licata, who heads the city's committee on issues dealing with law enforcement, convened the meeting, but said it really was done at the urging of groups advocating for reforms in how drug laws are enforced.
The goal, he said, is for the city to begin working on drug treatment as a way of reducing street-level drug dealing, rather than relying on law enforcement to arrest street dealers.
