In Memoriam: Lynn Zimmer 1947-2006
As many of you have heard by now, our very dear friend and colleague, Lynn Zimmer, died on Sunday morning after a long struggle with multiple sclerosis.Lynn was such a force in so many lives, we wanted to provide a space here for those who want to share some memories or thoughts about Lynn or her work.
Nora Callahan, co-founder of the November Coalition, shared these words with us:
I'm sorry Lynn is gone. I know that disease compels folks to be glad that a person's suffering is over, but lights go out in a world that needs all the lights it can get. Please feel free to use the "Comments" link below to post your own thoughts.
I'm thinking of her a lot today, and she was one of our 'first dues paying members' and always included notes that kept me going on difficult days.
One other thing -- make time to grieve and properly mourn personal loss. It's part of healthful practices and activists are the worst about denying themselves normal mental processes, due to nature of our work. Love yourself by giving yourself a break and time to mourn.
Addendum: Marsha Rosenbaum, DPA's Director of the Safety First Project, sent a touching eulogy to me over email. You can read it here. I think she's a little freaked out by the blog.
