It's Okay to Kill Someone, Just Don't Sell Her Drugs

In 2003, Robert E. Chambers, the so-called "Preppy Killer," was released from prison after serving a 15 year sentence for manslaughter. In 1986 he strangled Jennifer Levin in Central Park during what he described as rough sex. Well, now he's back in jail for possessing and selling cocaine. His sentence this time is 19 years and 4 months with a 5 year probation at the end. That's negotiated down from a possible 30 years in prison.

I'm sorry, but what??? Selling drugs carries a sentence twice as long as that of killing someone? Can someone with a J.D. or something please explain that to me? Because I just don't get it. What kind of message are the courts and policy makers sending to society when a murderer gets out of prison before a drug dealer? Here's what I take from it: this government cares more about limiting personal freedoms than it does about achieving justice for a victim. This justice system cares more about drug use than it does about human life.

What a sad day for America.
